Weston Favell Academy

GCSE success at WFA!

Pupils at the Weston Favell Academy are celebrating after receiving another year of tremendous results in their GCSE or equivalent courses of study.

The unvalidated data indicates that there has been strong attainment once more in mathematics with better than average progress.  English and mathematics have shown a significant increase in top grades, and performance in ‘Basics’ measure significantly exceeded DfE estimates.

We are delighted that nearly 20% of students have achieved one or more top grades: grade 9, A* or Distinction*.  This is a wonderful achievement as only the top 3% of students nationally are awarded a grade 9 in each subject.

Whilst all students have done well, there are some that exceptional individual performances:

  • Lelia Fuchs, our top performing student and Student of the Year for four consecutive years, secured an impressive sweep across the board with grade 9 in all subjects.  This is a truly exceptional performance from an incredibly talented young lady.
  • Abidah Subhan gained seven grade 9’s, one grade 8 and one grade 7 including grade 9 performances in English Language, English Literature and mathematics.
  • Tayo Okanlawon secured five grade 9’s in mathematics, chemistry, biology, geography and physics followed by three grade 8’s and one grade 7.
  • Sophie Lane has gained three grade 9’s in English Language, biology and history, four grade 8’s, one grade 7, and an A in psychology.
  • Sabina Begum achieved two grade 9’s in English Language and history, grade 8 in English Literature and geography, and grade 7 in French, mathematics and physics.
Well done Sean on doing well today!

Alex gained excellent GCSE results today

A positive progress score in a broad range of subjects including maths, physics and vocational subjects has been achieved.

This follows last week’s best ever A Level results with impressive value added scores, and the recent Ofsted report which highlighted significant improvements.  To apply for WFA Sixth Form which offers Law and Finance courses not available in many sixth forms, please contact Mrs Mann on lmann@westonfavellacademy.org or call in to see her on Friday 24th August between 10am and 3pm.

Principal, Lorna Leventhal, says “In the context of new, more challenging examinations at GCSE, we are delighted that our students have continued to achieve and the academy continues to improve.”
